What happens when we die? It’s the age-old question that remains a mystery… or does it? While it’s true many so-called ghost photos on the internet are fakes created by accidental double exposure, lens flares, or pareidolia (seeing faces in objects). Every so often, you can come across a picture that can’t be so easily explained away.
If you’re not a believer in the afterlife here are twelve of the best paranormal pictures ever taken that might change your mind.
1. The Screaming Ghost
In 1984, a teenager was a victim of a fatal car accident. This photograph was taken shortly after the incident by local police. As a matter of procedure, one of the police officers took photos of the accident with a 35mm film camera for the record.
When the pictures were developed, the police were both puzzled and shocked by what they saw in one of the frames. Clearly visible above the open driver’s side door is what appears to be the head and shoulders of a young man. The face of the young man is contorted in an open-mouthed scream. Is it the spirit of the young man re-experiencing the last moments of his life?
2. The Woman of Alcatraz
Alcatraz, the former prison site, long considered to be one of the most haunted places in the US, was once home to hundreds of notorious murderers, bank robbers, and gangsters such as Al Capone. In this creepy image, a shadowy girl can be seen staring directly through the window at the camera from inside the inmates’ visitation waiting room.
The photographer, Sheila Sillery-Walsh said ‘When I glanced at the photo on my mobile, I saw this dark female figure in the picture. I looked at the window again and there was no-one in the room.”
3. Angelic Figure Caught on Wildlife Camera
Coast To Coast AM guest Dingo, a law enforcement officer from Georgia, posted this eerie image under the headline “Strange Figure on Wildlife Camera”. According to Dingo, he and another officer responded to a call about hunters trespassing on private property. The officers were unable to locate the suspects. The next day the property owners set up an infrared wildlife camera in an attempt to catch the trespassers. They seem to have captured something else instead.
“After a number of reports from the complainant and unable to locate any hunters in the area, the property owner put a wildlife camera up. The property owner checked the camera the next day and contacted us to take a look at the pictures. The property owner wouldn’t tell me what he thought it was and I wouldn’t express my opinion of what I thought it was, for fear that we didn’t want the other to think each other was crazy.” Dingo said about the incident.
4. The Hidden Cowboy
In 1996, Ike Clanton, dressed in cowboy attire had his friend photograph him while he stood in Boothill Graveyard in the famous Tombstone, Arizona. After reviewing the photograph, Clanton noticed a man in the background of the photo that was not there when the photograph was taken.

I definitely have my moments when I’m falling apart and I’m terrified and I literally grab my phone and I stare at that picture.” Erin’s father Kevin Potter said to Cleveland’s 19 Action News.

The chute connected to an underground room where patient’s bodies were kept before being taken away for cremation. Most of the abandoned hospital, including the morgue and body chute, remains intact to this day which was where this now famous photograph was captured.
Taken by professional photographer and Missouri Paranormal Research Investigator Tom Halstead, during an overnight investigation at the notoriously haunted Sanatorium.
